Data security is a hot topic in today's computer world. It seems that protecting data is one of the most difficult things to do. Yet with a little understanding of how to protect your data it can be relative easy. Invoice! WinPro has logon/login security by requiring users to logon to the software before they can use it. This along with network (if you are using the software across a network) security helps allot. However the data can still be accessed without a lot of problems if one has the tools. So to help prevent unauthorized users from gaining access to the database where your data is stored we use the ACCESS password system. What does this mean to you? It means no one including the owner of the software can actually gain access to the data without using Invoice! WinPro, and then only if they have admin rights. If you should find yourself in a position where you need to gain access to the raw data you must contact us and we will make arrangements with you to get access. This is normally done by sending us a copy of the database and we will remove the password or at your request use a different password. However you cannot use this with Invoice! WinPro once you get it back.
Steps we have taken to protect your data. 1. We use the Access Database 2003. This allows us to add a password that as far as we know has never been cracked. It also means that if the password is ever lost then the data can never be recovered. 2. The connection from the software to the database is encrypted and cannot be viewed. 3. We do not print out the Customers Credit Card Information on any report. At best you will see the last four digits when it is used on an Invoice for payment. (You can however see the credit card information for the customer when you are in the customers database and click on the credit card information button.)
Some other steps you can take to protect the data you enter into Invoice! WinPro. 1. Use the NTFS file system with Windows 2000, XP, and Vista operating systems. 2. Add users and groups to the operating system and then use those groups on the actual folder, especially if you are operating across a network. 3. Use the security features of Invoice! WinPro and require users to logon. Thus you can make them an administrator or user and keep them from accessing certain parts of the program to help prevent misuse.
Most of all use common sense. Most compromises of data are a result of misuse by users. |
